Week 64: Bakhmut flanks re-secured.

Bakhmut - Ukraine pushes back on the flanks

Ukraine initiated a localized counterattack in and around the city of Bakhmut towards the end of the week, aiming to regain control of strategic positions. They successfully resecured the Khromove road, pushing the Russian forces further back and out of direct line of sight, making the supply route relatively safer, although it is still susceptible to long-range weaponry like artillery fire.

Within the city, Ukrainian forces managed to reclaim some blocks in the south, signalling a partial victory. On the southern flank of Bakhmut, they also achieved a potentially significant victory by pushing the advancing Russian positions back to the canal. Some reports even suggest that Ukrainian forces have crossed the canal, posing a considerable risk of encirclement for any remaining Russian troops northwest of the crossing.

However, not all developments on this front favoured Ukraine, as Russian forces continued to make progress within some parts of the city itself. It appears that Ukraine's operations may be primarily aimed at securing the withdrawal of their remaining forces from Bakhmut.
